1. Core Concept

What is Past Continuous Tense?

Past Continuous ka use kisi past time par ongoing/in-progress action (action chal raha tha) ko describe karne ke liye hota hai.

Positive Formula

S + was/were + V-ing

I was studying.

Negative Formula

S + wasn't/weren't + V-ing

She wasn't cooking.

Question Formula

Was/Were + S + V-ing?

Were they playing?

WH Formula

WH + was/were + S + V-ing?

What were you doing?

Was vs. Were Helping Verb Selection

I / He / She / It ➔ WAS

• I was studying. (मैं पढ़ रहा था।)

• He was sleeping. (वह सो रहा था।)

• She was cooking. (वह खाना बना रही थी।)

• It was raining. (बारिश हो रही थी।)

You / We / They ➔ WERE

• You were studying. (तुम पढ़ रहे थे।)

• We were working. (हम काम कर रहे थे।)

• They were playing cricket. (वे cricket खेल रहे थे।)

Rule 1: Standard

work ➔ working | play ➔ playing

Simply add -ing to base verb.

Rule 2: Drop Silent -e

write ➔ writing | make ➔ making

Remove final 'e' before adding -ing.

Rule 3: CVC Double Consonant

run ➔ running | sit ➔ sitting

Double final consonant in short verbs.
