The 8-Step Sequential Error Hunting System
Never scan randomly! Always inspect each sentence in this exact order:
Step 1

Subject

Check if subject pronoun is appropriate (Ravi and I, not Me and Ravi)

Step 2

Subject-Verb Agreement

Singular (He/She/It) → V1+s/es; Plural (They/We) → V1

Step 3

Tense Match

Time words match tense (yesterday → V2; since/for → have been)

Step 4

Helping Verbs & V3

has/have/had → V3; is/am/are/was/were → V-ing; did → V1

Step 5

Modals + V1

can, could, should, must, will, would ALWAYS take base V1

Step 6

Articles (A/An/The)

Vowel SOUND → an honest man, an umbrella; Consonant → a book

Step 7

Preposition Pairs

good at, interested in, afraid of, listen to, depend on

Step 8

Clauses & Inversion

No 'will' in if-clauses; statement word order in reported Qs

Trap 1: Did / Didn't + V2 (FATAL!)

❌ Did you went there?

✅ Did you go there?

❌ She didn't came yesterday.

✅ She didn't come yesterday.

Trap 2: Inverted Indirect Questions

❌ He asked where was I going.

✅ He asked where I was going.

❌ Ravi asked if was I busy.

✅ Ravi asked if I was busy.
