WOULD (Past Repeated Action & Politeness)
рдмрд╛рд░-рдмрд╛рд░ past рдореЗрдВ рдХрд░рддрд╛ рдерд╛ (Needs context) OR Polite Request

When I was young, I would play outside every evening.

ЁЯСЙ рдмрдЪрдкрди рдореЗрдВ рдореИрдВ рд╣рд░ рд╢рд╛рдо рдмрд╛рд╣рд░ рдЦреЗрд▓рд╛ рдХрд░рддрд╛ рдерд╛ред

ЁЯФе The Golden Distinction: Action Verbs vs. State Verbs

Both Used to and Would work for repeated past actions. BUT for past states or situations (live, be, have, know, like), only USED TO is allowed!

Actions (Both OK)

"I used to play cricket." тЬЕ

"When young, I would play cricket." тЬЕ

ЁЯСЙ 'Play' is an action verb.

States (Only Used To!)

"I used to live in Delhi." тЬЕ

"I would live in Delhi." тЭМ

"She used to be shy." тЬЕ

"She would be shy." тЭМ

Negative & Questions: Notice "Use" (NOT "Used")! тЪая╕П

Because did already carries the past tense, the verb becomes use to (not used to):

Positive

"I used to play."

Negative (didn't use to)

"I didn't use to play."

тЭМ NOT didn't used to

Question (Did you use to?)

"Did you use to play?"

тЭМ NOT Did you used to
